Get the Dirt on the Rancho Rodeo
We think Rancho Cortez has a lot to offer, and we realize there are some attractions that have the ability to captivate, inspire, and amaze like no others. One of those is an authentic rodeo.
That's why we're quick to point out that attendees of our horse camp get to cap their experience by participating in an old-fashioned, down-and-dirty Bandera rodeo. However, you have to sign up and make it through to a Friday night to get there. They say the only way to really understand a Texas rodeo is to ride in one, and the weekly graduates of Rancho Cortez Horse Camp get a chance to experience that!
First, the details
Any given Friday, from May through August, Rancho Cortez offers the opportunity to their guests to visit a real Texas rodeo, which begins at 8 p.m., sharp. Cowboys and cowgirls from nearby and out-of-town all come to try their hands and rack up points for awards.
Rodeo events
As rodeos go, it's pretty standard fare: bull/steer riding, calf and team roping, plus crowd favorites like the calf scramble and mutton bustin' for the little cowpokes. Our horse camp attendees get to try their hand at barrel racing (seen on the right), which is a classic test of speed, agility, and riding skill.
Ok, sign me up!
Hold on there; the rodeo life ain't for everybody. Our campers pack a pretty good amount of training into the week leading up to their rodeo debuts, and anyone looking to brave the ring should do the same, at least. The good news is that we can show you how to ride with the best.
